Hello everyone,
Howdy? How’s July unveiling at your end?
I’m officially done with my Master’s degree💃, and before I step into the next chapter, I’m taking in the little joys life is handing me, like watching roller hockey while enjoying summer.
Anyway, Freda and I have become unofficial members of the audience 😊, cheering on Eric as he plays. Now, the funny part? There have been many moments during the game when Freda or I would whisper to each other, “Wait… did the puck go in? Who got it in?”
Roller hockey is fast, and the puck is tiny; unless you’re laser-focused or watching intently, it’s easy to miss the moment a goal is scored. Sometimes, there’s no celebratory yell, no dramatic fist pump, nothing. Just a quick reset on the timer, and players zipping around like their lives depend on it. Unless you're paying attention, you’ll miss the point entirely.
There have even been times when we left the game without a win😒. But honestly? Who cares? Eric played, and, oh, he played well.
And that’s when it hit me.
Sometimes in life, you are the only two cheers in the room. Sometimes you're the only person celebrating your tiny win. Sometimes you're the only one clapping when something goes right, even if you're not 100% sure it did.
We’re so caught up in the motion, the spinning wheels, the back-and-forth, the defense, and dodging that we miss when we’re scoring. When we’re winning. When a door quietly opens. When growth sneaks in.
Finishing my degree reminded me of that. Yes, there was a walk across the stage, handshakes, cameras, friends, and family cheering online and in person. But for me, it felt like a quiet completion. A deep exhale. A checkmark on a dream that once felt far off.
Since then, I still catch myself squinting at life, asking, “Did anything even happen?” “Did I really make progress?” “Is God moving or am I imagining things?” Just because I can’t see it doesn’t mean the win didn’t happen.
Sometimes the confirmation isn’t in your feelings, it’s in the fruit. The people you’ve encouraged. The strength you’ve gained. The lessons you’ve learned. The fact that you keep showing up. You may not feel the confetti, but girl…bruh…, you scored.
Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) says, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?…” Keyword: perceive. It doesn’t say see with your two eyes. It says perceive. Because sometimes what God is doing isn’t loud or dramatic. It’s quiet. It’s sneaky like that puck. But it’s real.
So maybe the goal isn’t always to track every move. Perhaps it’s time to trust that the game is still being played in our favour.
Song Suggestion: Terrian’s Big God
Here's to every goal that didn’t announce itself. You scored. You just haven’t seen it yet.
With love and cheers,
Faith, for the Royal Rubies.
